Consistency between the printed code, RFID value and product record is the key production check.

Start from the user’s task

A person with a phone may need product information. A production or logistics system may need to identify tagged items. Choose a data carrier for each task and keep both representations connected to the same product record.

Make the relationship explicit

In a GS1 item-level example, a Digital Link can contain a GTIN and serial, while an SGTIN EPC represents the corresponding item identity. Store the relationship before producing the label, so the visible code and RFID value can be checked together.

Test the physical result

Check the QR code after printing, and read back the RFID value using suitable equipment. Agree on the printer, firmware, label and inlay combination. An on-screen preview cannot establish the quality of the physical output.

  • Compare both readings against the allocated identity.
  • Define how failed labels and reprints are handled.

Choose the carrier and reader together

QR, NFC and passive UHF/RAIN RFID are different reading paths. The phone camera used for a QR cannot read a UHF EPC. NFC support on a phone does not make that phone a UHF reader. For an item-level design, choose the capture hardware and verify that both digital representations resolve to the intended item record.

Scan success and symbol verification are different checks

One successful phone scan is useful functional evidence, but it does not establish a barcode quality grade across equipment. For production, define the applicable verification method, size, quiet zone, contrast and acceptance criteria. Test representative printed material and RFID placement, including nearby tags. Keep the read-back result with the allocated identity and reject mismatches before releasing a label.
